Newton Fire Captain Melanie Smith says a weekend fire damaged a barn and a new load of hay. It happened shortly before 6:00 Sunday evening at the Robert & Robbye Davis residence on Farm to Market Road 2626. Captain Smith said Mr. Davis told her that he had just put the new hay in the barn when the blaze broke out. Meanwhile, the cause of the fire is unknown. Both the Newton and Bon Wier Fire Departments responded and were able to save about half of the barn and its contents.
