NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KLTV) - Three people have died following a Nacogdoches shooting Friday morning.
Police have named two of the victims to be Dequavious LeCharles Brooks, 17, and Edward Alejandro Rivera, 18, both of Nacogdoches. The third victim has not yet been identified, the department said in a release.
The Nacogdoches Police Department has issued an arrest warrant for Hector Cuarenta, 17, of Nacogdoches. The charge on the warrant is aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The charge stems from the triple homicide that happened on Hackberry Street on Friday.
You are asked to call Crime Stoppers immediately if you know where Cuarenta is. They can be reached at 936-560-4636.
Police officers first received a call at 10:22 a.m. that someone had been shot in the 1000 block of Hackberry Street. The caller said one person ran from the scene.
When police arrived, they found two victims shot and seated in a black car in the street. A third victim was also found shot and lying in the street.
One of the victims in the vehicle died at the scene, while the other two were taken to a hospital where they died shortly after, the release said.
A fourth person was identified to be still at large as of 4:17 p.m., according to Assistant Chief of Patrol with the Nacogdoches Police Department Patrol Division Dan Taravella.
He said they believe the shooting to be an isolated event and that there is no threat to the community.
“NPD feels confident that this incident was a targeted and isolated incident and that the neighborhood and general public are not in any danger,” the release said.
Taravella also stated they are asking for the public’s help.
“We definitely want the public’s help and any witness information of people who were in the area at the time or home security footage,” Taravella said. “We don’t know the exact motive, but we know enough to know this was an isolated incident specific to these individuals. We don’t feel there’s any danger to the neighborhood or the public.”
Fredonia Elementary was in a secure status Friday due to the incident as a precaution. They note that there is no current threat to the campus. They said a controlled release would take place during student dismissal.
