A man who was wanted in Jasper County was found and arrested in North Carolina, and his grandfather was also arrested for harboring him.
Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard says 18-year-old Jacob Hunter James, of Jasper, was named in warrants for Tampering with an Electronic Monitoring Device and Burglary. Havard said a tip on James’ location resulted in his arrest in Robinsville, North Carolina.
Also arrested was his grandfather, 58-year-old William Bret McCollister who was charged with Harboring a Fugitive.
Jasper County Jail records show that James was arrested in February of 2025 on a charge of Possession of Dangerous Drugs, and in July of 2025 on a charge of Burglary of a Habitation. In the July case, investigators said James and a juvenile stole 24 guns from the home, which was located near the intersection of Highway 63 West at Recreational Road 255.
