Violent brawl in downtown Shreveport

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

SHREVEPORT, La. – A dramatic fight was caught on camera in downtown Shreveport this weekend, just days after a City Council meeting addressing unruly crowds.

A large crowd of people started fighting Friday night at the corner of Texas and Spring streets downtown, which is at the entrance of the Red River District

Recently, a Red River District business owner complained to the City Council about unruly crowds in the area on the weekends. In addition, the business owner also asked that there be a stronger police presence during that time.

Police Chief Wayne Smith and his command staff went to the area to survey it on Tuesday to see what could be done and how they could accommodate the concerns of the business owner and others with the same complaints.

It’s uncertain if Friday night’s crowd spilled over from events in the district or from clubs downtown.
