NATCHITOCHES, La. – A violent eight hours in and around Natchitoches ended this morning with three people shot, one fatally. Investigations of the crimes are ongoing in the separate shootings, two of which happened inside the city of Natchitoches and the third just outside in the Payne Subdivision. No arrests have been made in any so far. The deadly shooting was reported around 6:44 p.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of July Street. Matthew Daniels, 17, of Natchitoches was taken from that scene to the hospital, where he died. Officers had responded to a report of gunshots in the area. They spoke to several witnesses and collected evidence. The Natchitoches Police Department is working with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and will release more details about Daniels' death as they become available. Wednesday morning, Natchitoches police were dispatched to the 1400 block of Stella Street where they found a victim with a gunshot wound. The person was first taken to the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center and later to a hospital in Shreveport for further treatment. The first of the three shootings happened around 5:44 p.m. Tuesday outside of the city limits, leaving a 16-year-old in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Natchitoches Parish sheriff's deputies found over 40 bullet casings when they responded to the shooting scene on Keith Drive off Highway 6 east of Natchitoches. Residents in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots in the area. The shooter left the scene before deputies got there. The victim was taken by private vehicle to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, where life-saving measures were performed. The teen was then transferred to a regional trauma center for further treatment. Sheriff’s investigators brought in special lighting to help them photograph and process the crime scene as they worked into the night. They also searched an undisclosed location near Natchitoches, looking for more evidence. Detectives continued Wednesday reviewing evidence, speaking to family, friends, and following up on potential leads in the investigation.
