Vernon Parish school bus involved in crash at Ft. Polk

FORT POLK, La. (KALB) - A Vernon Parish school bus was involved in a crash with another vehicle on Louisiana Avenue at Fort Polk.

According to the details shared by the installation on Facebook, some of the children sustained injuries and were either treated on the scene or transported to local hospitals for further evaluation.

The driver of the other vehicle was airlifted for further medical care.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

VPSB Transportation Supervisor Raymond Haymon released the following statement on the crash:

“Monday afternoon, a bus for the Vernon Parish School Board was involved in an accident at approximately 3:35 pm at Fort Polk. The bus was carrying 27 passengers at the time of the incident. Emergency services were immediately called to the scene. We fully cooperated with first responders and the investigating authorities to ensure the safety of all involved. Our top priority is the well-being of our passengers, our driver, and anyone else affected by this incident. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by local authorities. At this time, we will not speculate on the cause of the incident. We will provide updates to the media and public as we have confirmed, verifiable information to share. We extend our sincere gratitude to the emergency personnel for their prompt and professional response. We will continue to work with them and will share more information when it is available.”
