US Army temporarily locks gates at Fort Polk

The US Army Command at Fort Polk is not releasing all details, but saying officials there responded to reports of a possible threat on Monday, prompting the closure of all gates and entrances to the base.

Joint command issued a statement late Monday that said the facility, which is located south of Leesville, reopened after a search was made of the installation, which is also the home of the Joint Readiness Training Center and found no breach of security.

Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft also released a statement late Monday saying everything had been checked out and that everything was ok as he assured the people of Leesville and the surrounding are that there was no need for alarm.

There's still no official word on what sparked the concerns. However, reliable sources say there was a report of an open shooter, but it turned out to be false.

The measure came at a time heightened security as a result of the actions in Iran.
