UPDATED - Two girls injured in a hit-and-run crash

Two girls went to the hospital and two vehicles went to the body shop after a Wednesday afternoon hit-and-run crash in Jasper. Police responded at about 2:00 to West Gibson at South Bowie, an intersection which has seen many accidents over the years. One of the drivers, 17-year-old Tabitha Lirette, said that she was driving a Chevrolet HHR SUV eastbound on Highway 190 with her 14-year-old cousin, Natalie Kennemer, in the passenger seat. Tabitha said that a Hyundai sedan pulled out in front of her from the stop sign on South Bowie Street and the two vehicles collided. After the crash, Tabitha said the other driver threw a beer can out of his car and fled the scene on foot. Glenda Taylor, who is Tabitha’s mom and Natalie’s aunt, said that both were taken by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital. Tabitha was treated and released, but Natalie apparently got the worst of the crash and she was kept longer for testing. Jasper Police are continuing to investigate and at last word the hit-and-run driver remains at-large.
