Two men are now charged with murder after two other men were shot to death near Silsbee early Sunday morning.
Hardin County Sheriff Mark Davis says deputies responded to a report of a shooting at about 2:30 a.m. and arrived to find the two men dead near the road. Davis said Monday that it began as a minor auto accident that escalated into a disturbance and then a shooting.
According an affidavit, during an interview with Johnson, he admitted being at The Warehouse Night Club with Deontray Carey Jr. Johnson says while leaving the club, he was involved in a minor motor vehicle crash with a female driver.
Johnson says while he attempted to settle details of the crash, his car was involved in a second crash, this one with a dually pickup truck. Johnson says he and Deontray Carey Jr. approached the driver of the dually, identified as Henry Carey Jr., and attempted to demand money from him as compensation for the damages, in lieu of notifying law enforcement.
Johnson says when the driver didn't immediately pay them, both suspects retrieved 9mm Taurus pistols from the wrecked car.
The driver's friend approached the suspects to get a ride home and became involved in the discussion about damages and that later resulted in a fight over money.
Johnson says he fell to the ground and claimed that Carey was struck by one of the men who swung their fist at him. According to Johnson, he shot the men three times and Deontray Carey Jr. shot them about six times.
The dead have been identified as Henry Carey, Jr., 36, and Khalil Ahmadrian Gooch, 29, both from Kountze.
The suspects have been identified as Deontray Deshunn Carey, Jr., 22, of Beaumont, and Kenny Ray Johnson, 21, of Baytown.
