Kirbyville Police Chief Paul Brister said Tuesday afternoon that a shooting suspect is now in custody after turning himself in.
Brister said the suspect, George Hardy Manchac, 56, of Kirbyville, was brought before Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Mike Smith and was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Brister said Manchac's bond was set at $75,000.00, and he was then taken to the Jasper County Jail to be booked in.
The shooting occurred at about 1:00 at the Dover Exxon Jiffy Market in the 400 block of Highway 96.
The victim, 31-year-old Chase Davis, was shot at least once in the small of his back by what was said to be a 9 millimeter handgun. He managed to walk to the front door of the store and then collapsed.
Davis was flown by medical helicopter to a Beaumont Hospital where he is still reportedly undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, Brister said exactly what lead up to the shooting is still not clear.

Kirbyville Police Chief Paul Brister said Tuesday morning that a warrant has been signed by a Judge and an arrest is imminent in relation to a Monday afternoon shooting that left a man seriously injured.
It happened at about 1:00 at the Dover Exxon Jiffy Market in the 400 block of Highway 96.
The victim, 31-year-old Chase Davis, was shot at least once in the small of his back by what was said to be a 9 millimeter handgun. He managed to walk to the front door of the store and then collapsed.

Meanwhile, Brister said exactly what lead up to the shooting is still not clear.
The name of the suspect has not yet been released pending arrest and arraignment.
