Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

A Jasper police officer and another driver were injured in a Saturday afternoon near head-on crash. It occurred shortly after 3:00 on Highway 96, just south of the Sandy Creek Bridge. Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark said the officer, Robert Twine, age 38, was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe patrol SUV with emergency lights and siren activated as he was performing a funeral procession escort. Clark said the officer was traveling northbound when 76-year-old Suzanna Richards, of Jasper, pulled out from a parking lot in front of the police SUV, which struck her 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck. Richards was flown by medical helicopter to St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont with serious injuries. Sergeant Clark said Twine underwent treatment at Jasper Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
