The Texas Department of Public Safety has released information about a man who fled from troopers on Tuesday.
According to Sergeant Shana Clark, 39-year-old Antonio DeWayne Jackson, of Burkeville, had been under a lengthy drug activity investigation by the DPS Criminal Investigation Division, the FBI, the Newton County Sheriff's Department, and the Jasper Police Department.
Clark said this resulted in a federal indictment on a charge of Manufacture & Delivery of Methamphetamine.
Sergeant Clark said shortly before noon on Tuesday, a trooper spotted Jackson leaving a house on Farm to Market Road 1415 in Burkeville and he tried to stop Jackson, who was driving a Dodge Charger. However, Clark said Jackson began fleeing at a high rate of speed.
The pursuit went onto Highway 63 towards Jasper County, but the trooper lost sight of Jackson's car around the Jasper-Newton County line.
Sergeant Clark said Jackson threw 6.6 ounces of methamphetamine out of his car during the chase.
At about 1:00, officers found the car abandoned on County Road County Road 1570 off of Farm to Market Road 1012, just southwest of the Farrsville Community.
They began a ground search for the driver which included a law enforcement tracking dog. However, as of Tuesday evening Jackson remained at large.
The sheriffs of both Jasper and Newton Counties are advising everyone in the area to please keep their doors locked and keys out of vehicles. Sheriff Colton Havard is also telling residents of the Farrsville area to not open their doors without looking out and seeing who is there.
