GLADEWATER, Texas (KLTV) -The Union Grove ISD Board of Trustees announced Thursday night that they have named Dr. Greg Bower as the Lone Finalist for the Superintendent of Schools.
Dr. Bower was named Lone Finalist in a called special meeting with a unanimous 6-0 vote. Once the mandatory 21-day waiting period is over, Dr. Bower is expected to assume the role full-time on April 1, 2026.
Dr. Bower, who is a 1992 graduate of Union Grove, currently serves as the Deputy Superintendent at Kemp ISD. Prior to this position, according to the statement released by UGISD, Bower was the Superintendent at Como-Pickton CISD for 8.5 years, where he led the district to amazing success and notably led the community and school through reconstruction after massive tornado damage affected the entire community and nearly delayed the start of their school year in 2023.
Dr. Bower has served in administrative roles in several larger 4A and 5A schools prior to becoming an assistant superintendent at Quitman before landing the head job at Como-Pickton.
UGISD said that Dr. Bower has received numerous accolades over his 28 years in education, most notably being named the Superintendent of the year for Region 8, which includes nearly 50 school districts from 1A to 5A in 2020. In 2024, Bower was named the TREA Superintendent of the year for the entire State of Texas. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Texas Rural Education Association (TREA).
Dr. Bower a 1992 graduate of Union Grove ISD, received his Bachelor’s Degree from UT Tyler, a Master’s of History from UT Tyler, a Master’s of English at East Texas A&M, and his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lamar University.
