Tyler man arrested in Thursday shooting that left 1 dead, 1 injured

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Tyler police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting that left one person dead and another injured early Thursday morning.

Kendrick Dawone Ross, 35, of Tyler has been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, with bonds totaling $1.5 million.

Officers said they responded to reports of an aggravated assault just before 2:30 a.m. in the 1800 block of North Grand Avenue, between West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Nutbush Street.

Investigators later learned as many as four or five people were reportedly held at gunpoint before shots were fired, and at least two people were hurt.

Demonta Jaquis Brown, 32, of Smith County was transported to a local hospital by EMS with gunshot wounds. He died as a result of those wounds, Tyler police said.

Police said another victim, a woman, is in critical condition at a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police remained at the scene throughout the morning as they collected evidence and interviewed witnesses.

Tyler police said a suspect is detained and being interviewed.
