Tyler man arrested in connection with fiery crash at Van Zandt County gas station

VAN ZANDT COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A Tyler man is in the Van Zandt County Jail after authorities accused him of crashing his truck into gas station pumps. According to a report by the Van Police Department, on Friday, March 8, the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup entered the parking lot of the Gateway Travel Plaza at 3:15 a.m. and struck a multi-station fuel pump. The crash caused the pump to dislodge from its base, igniting the fuel. The report states the driver fled the scene after dragging the pump back through the flames with the truck. Investigators said the estimated costs due to cleanup, repairs and lost revenue exceed $55,000. Following a joint investigation into the incident with help from the Van Zandt County Precinct 4 Constable’s office, investigators were led to a residence in Smith County where a vehicle matching the one involved in the incident was found. Trevion Lakeith Bowie, 26, of Tyler, allegedly confessed his responsibility for the incident after being interviewed at the residence. Bowie has been booked into the Van Zandt County Jail on a charge of criminal mischief >=$30,000<$150,000, a third-degree felony.
