Slaydon captured at local cafe

A man who has been on the run from law enforcement since late February has been caught and is in jail. Deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff's Department say 35-year-old Jeffery Slaydon was taken into custody shortly after 7:00 on Wednesday evening at Elijah's Cafe on Gibson Street in Jasper. Sheriff's spokesperson Carly Cherry said the arrest and capture of Slaydon took place when officers learned that that he was at the restaurant and converged on the eatery. Officers believe Slaydon had been staying at a local motel. Slaydon reportedly ran from Deputy Chris Wade on Tuesday February 27th on a motorcycle in a chase that sometimes exceeded 115 miles per hour before laying down the bike and running into the woods near the intersection of Highway 96 and Farm to Market Road 1005 at Zion Hill, south of Jasper. Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman said a task force including not only officers from his department, but also the Jasper Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety - Southeast Texas Region, United States Marshals Service and others worked together in the search for Slaydon that resulted in his arrest. So far Slaydon, who is currently being held at the Jasper County Jail is charged with Evading Arrest/Detention w/Vehicle and Unlawful Possession of Firearm by a Felon.
