Two people were injured in a two vehicle auto accident that occurred shortly before 5:00 at the intersection of Highway 96 and Farm to Market Road 1007 in the north end of Jasper County near Lake Sam Rayburn.
The volunteers of the Lake Rayburn Fire Department and others responding to the accident arrived to find one of the vehicles, a Lincoln SUV laying on it's side and a Nissan SUV still standing straight up.
The female driver of the Nissan was trapped inside but firemen soon rescued her from the vehicle as emergency medical technicians went to work treating her at the scene and preparing her to be transferred to a hospital
The female driver of the overturned Lincoln was treated and later reported to be ok.
What caused the crash is not known and no fire resulted from the incident.
Both the north and south lanes of Highway 96 remained open throughout the ordeal. However, FM-1007 was blocked for some time.
Firemen said the driver of the Nissan was flown by helicopter directly from the scene to a hospital in Conroe.
The names of those involved and other details have not been released by State Troopers who are investigating the accident.
