Two people were injured in a two vehicle auto accident that occurred in the north end of Jasper County in the early hours of Saturday morning.
State Troopers said the crash occurred on Highway 96, just north of the intersection of Farm to Market Road 1007, shortly before 6:00, when a 2020 Dodge Charger, which was traveling southbound on 96, rear ended a 2000 Ford Focus that was also southbound at the time.
Following the collision, the two vehicles went off the west side of the road and hit several trees, before coming to a sudden stop.
Quick to arrive at the scene were the volunteers of the Lake Rayburn Fire Department who immediately went to work rescuing the drivers from the wreckage.
Trooper Shana Neal said the driver of the Dodge, 18-year-old Chad Goss of Pineland was taken by ambulance to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital, where he was at last word still undergoing treatment. Neal said the driver of the Ford, Jessica Hobson, 22, of Brookeland was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
A worker from the sawmill in Pineland said he was traveling south just prior the accident when the Dodge went around him at what he estimated to be well over 100 miles per hour just seconds before the crash occurred.
