Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark says an adult and a child died after a one-vehicle crash late Tuesday morning. It happened shortly after 11:00 on Highway 63 West, about a mile west of Recreational Road 255.
According to Sergeant Clark, a 2014 Jeep SUV was eastbound when it went off the highway and the back end of it hit a tree.
The driver, 29-year-old Christina Arnold of Jasper was pronounced dead at the scene and a 5 year old girl who was riding in the vehicle died a short time later at Jasper Memorial Hospital. Two other occupants of the vehicle, 30 year old Alexis Captain and a 6 year old were transported to CHI Lufkin for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The volunteers of the Angelina River Fire Department and others were praised for their efforts to save the lives of all of those injured in the crash.
The accident is still under investigation.
