Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard says two children who were lost in a wooded area were found safe and returned home to their family after a 6 hour search. According to Havard, the incident began shortly after 6:00 Thursday evening when the children were reported missing on County Road 3114, also known as Sheppard Road, which is midway between Buna and Deweyville. Havard said a helicopter from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department was flown in to assist in the search, and using their night vision camera they were able to locate the children at 12:36 Friday morning.
