A two-vehicle crash late Thursday morning just north of Kirbyville left both drivers critically injured. It happened at about 10:40 on Highway 96 at County Road 457.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark, 63-year-old Anthony Redmond, of Gray, Louisiana was driving a Dodge pickup truck southbound when he went onto the shoulder and then tried to make a U-turn. Sergeant Clark said he turned in front of and was struck by a southbound Mazda SUV, driven by 51-year-old Angelina Papania, of Sulphur, Louisiana.
Both Papania and Redmond suffered life threatening injuries. Papania was flown by medical helicopter to St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, while Redmond was taken by ambulance to the same hospital.
