The Texas Department of Criminal Justice says a man and woman have been arrested after the pair tried to smuggle 30 cell phones into a prison unit in Polk County. TDCJ says it occurred at the Polunsky Unit, located on the west side of Livingston. According to TDCJ officials, the cell phones and accessories were discovered concealed inside a hollowed-out piece of wood which had been sent to the prison unit’s woodworking and craft shop. Arrested were John Charles Godoy, 65, of Humble, and Janette Pizana, 44, of Houston. TDCJ says the Office of the Inspector General conducted the investigation, and each has been charged with Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity and Introducing a Prohibited Item in a Correctional Facility.
