Two Burkeville residents were arrested over the weekend on child endangerment charges. Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard says the arrests occurred Saturday evening and were the result of an investigation that began last year. According to Havard, his deputies and the Texas Department of Public Safety served arrest warrants on Richard Shaffner II and Rose Whiting. Havard said each was taken to the Newton County Jail and charged with Child Endangerment and Unlawful Restraint of a Person Under the Age of 17. No other information about the case was released.
