Truck turns over in front of local motel and restaurant

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

Jasper Police, firemen and other emergency crews were dispatched to the 600 block of West Gibson Street, which is also Highway 190, shortly before 5:00 on Monday morning when it was reported that a large tractor trailer truck had went off the road and turned over in front of the EconoLodge Motel and Son Asian Bistro. Police at the scene said it was too early to say pending a complete investigation and report, but that it appeared that the driver of the truck simply went to sleep, causing the eighteen wheeler, which was hauling carnival equipment to turn over. The driver of the truck, who was not identified by police, did not appear to be injured. Officers, who had been on patrol all night, said trucks from the carnival had been seen passing through town headed from east to west on Highway 190 for several hours. However, there was no information as to where the trucks which were loaded down with rides and other equipment were headed. As daylight began to appear, police, firemen and others were dealing with the overturned truck and also a large amount of diesel fuel and oil that had leaked from the vehicle and some of the equipment it was transporting.
