Crime continues out of control in the Golden Triangle. The latest involves an 18-year-old who tried to steal a U.S. Mail truck, but he didn’t know how to shift the gear into drive. It happened on 10th Street in Port Arthur on Saturday. Police say Kenyon Washington was armed with a gun when he jumped in the mail truck while the postal employee was out of the truck to deliver a package. According to police, the postal employee saw what was happening and she ran back to the truck to confront Washington, and he then pulled the gun on her and demanded that she show him how to put the transmission in drive, which she refused to do. Washington then jumped out of the truck and fled on foot. Port Arthur Police later captured Washington and he’s in the Jefferson County Jail under a charge of Aggravated Robbery. Magistrate Judge Marc DeRouen has set bond at $50,000.00. If convicted, Washington faces up to life in prison.
