MARTHAVILLE, La. -- A Natchitoches Parish man died Sunday afternoon during an accident that happened as he operated his farm tractor, Sheriff Stuart Wright said. The sheriff's office identified the victim as Charles William Cruse, 53, of Marthaville. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Deputies responded just before 3 p.m. to the 9900 block of state Highway 120 near Marthaville. An off-duty firefighter called 911 after seeing the tractor "sitting oddly" and stopped to check it out. The preliminary investigation indicates Cruse was hit by a low-lying pine tree limb as he operated his tractor near a private driveway on his property. The limb lifted Cruse out of his driver's compartment and pinned him against the rollover protection system bar, causing fatal injuries.
