LOGANSPORT, La. – A DeSoto Parish fire chief has been placed on administrative leave following his arrest over the weekend for DWI. The DeSoto Fire District No. 1 Board of Commissioners held a closed-door special meeting at 5 p.m. Monday to discuss the arrest of Fire Chief Mark Magee and possible disciplinary action. Board President Alan Bounds said the board has to abide by state civil service laws. Magee's leave is pending further investigation. The leave is also with pay per civil service rules, Bounds said. Magee, 39, was arrested Saturday afternoon after crashing his district-issued Ford F-250 pickup truck into a fire hydrant at the intersection of state highways 5 and 172 in Keachi. State troopers at the scene detected signs of impairment, leading to Magee’s arrest. A blood sample was taken and submitted for analysis. Bounds could not immediately recall how long Magee has served as fire chief but said it’s been four or more years. The district truck Magee was driving was not heavily damaged and can be repaired, Bounds said.
