The water level at Toledo Bend Dam has dropped and stabilized after reaching 172.5 feet above sea level on Monday, which is six inches below the top of the spillway. The Sabine River Authority opened five spillway gates at one foot each late Monday afternoon, which sent excess water flowing down the Sabine River, and subsequently brought the lake level down. As of 3:30 Wednesday afternoon, the level at the dam was reading 172.41 feet above sea level, just a few inches above Toledo Bend’s conservation pool level of 172.0 feet above sea level. In recent weeks, heavy rains have fallen to the north of the lake across the Sabine River watershed, which resulted in the water level rise in the reservoir.
