Toledo Bend has reached 172.5, five spillway gates opened at one foot each

The Sabine River Authority released an advisory on Sunday saying that the level of Toledo Bend Reservoir had risen to 172.4 feet above sea level, and if that level reached 172.5 they would have to open the spillway gates at Toledo Bend Dam. As of late Monday afternoon, the SRA website showed that the lake had, indeed, reached 172.5. KJAS News contacted the SRA headquarters and we were told that shortly after 4:00pm, they opened five spillway gates at one foot each. The SRA noted that currently two generators are operating 24 hours a day. Those living along the Sabine River below Toledo Bend are urged to monitor the water level in both the lake and the river, noting that the river could reach flood stage if water is released through the spillway.
