Three people dead and two others injured in house fire near Lumberton

Officials in nearby Hardin County say three people died and two others were injured in a tragic house fire that occurred early Saturday morning just north of Lumberton. Firemen from Lumberton were dispatched to the home at 5400 Lakewood Drive, just east of US Highway 69, shortly after 2:00 when neighbors reported smoke and fire coming from the double wide mobile home and soon called for assistance from both the Kountze and Silsbee Fire Departments and it took the combined effort of all three departments to finally bring the fire under control. When the fire was out, firemen reportedly discovered the bodies of two children ages 4 and 11 and a 27-year-old adult. All three were pronounced dead at the scene. However, firemen say a 34-year-old and a small infant escaped and were taken to a local hospital. Hardin County Sheriff Mark Davis said there were no clues as to what caused the fire but that deputies with his department were working with investigators from the Texas State Fire Marshal's Office in an attempt to find out what sparked the blaze. “We ask that you keep these victims and their families in your thoughts during this extremely tragic and difficult time,” Sheriff Davis. The names of the deceased and other information has not been released.
