As of Saturday, July 16, 2022, dialing 988 will connect all landline and cell phone users with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. This number is to be used if you or someone you know is in danger of suicide or experiencing a mental health crisis. Callers can receive immediate crisis counseling, resources, and referrals for future treatment. In some cases and where available, they may dispatch a mobile crisis unit to your location.
The 988-dialing code aims to provide people with an easy-to-remember number to use in a crisis, like 911.
Before July 16 and any time, people who need crisis support can: Call 1-800-273-8255. or Visit the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to connect with a trained crisis counselor.
