Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

The volunteers of the Jasper Fire Department were dispatched to the Jasper County Jail at the intersection of Burch and Milam Streets in east Jasper, shortly after 9:00 on Monday evening when the smell of something burning or smoke was detected in the building.

Firemen arrived and after thoroughly checking the inside of the building and air conditioners on the roof but were unable to find where the smell might have been coming from.

Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard said firemen and his workers searched the building together but could not find any sign of smoke or fire and that he and his maintenance crew would be monitoring the situation.
