The late Curtis Barbay, who was a legendary head football coach at Newton for many years, has been posthumously inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame. The honor came over the weekend at AT&T Stadium during the Texas High School Football State Championship Games. Barbay was 68 when he had a heart attack and died in September of 2010. He had amassed 317 wins while at the helm in Newton, and at the time of his death he had the fourth most wins of all Texas high school football coaches. In 2010 Barbay was inducted into the Southeast Texas Coaches Hall of Honor.
