Texas man arrested in Natchitoches shooting

NATCHITOCHES, La. -- Natchitoches police found a Texas man wanted in a Friday night shooting hiding in the bed of a pickup truck. Aldrick Edwards, 42, is now in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with attempted second-degree murder. The shooting was reported after 7:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Officers who first got on the scene provided medical aid to the victim who suffered from gunshot wounds. The victim was then flown to Ochsner LSU Health hospital in Shreveport for further treatment. Witnesses identified Edwards as a suspect in the shooting. Natchitoches police received help from Natchitoches Parish sheriff's deputies and the Red River Parish Sheriff's Office's K-9 in their search for Edwards. He wasn't found at their first stop at a house outside of the city. A citizen called in a sighting on University Parkway inside the city, but he wasn't there either. Shortly after midnight, criminal patrol units found Edwards hiding in a pickup truck parked in the 1400 block of Berry Avenue. He was arrested without incident. Natchitoches police acknowledged the help received from NPSO, RRSO and Northwestern State University police.
