The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department says a teenager was seriously injured after he was struck by a pick up truck on Sunday morning west of Jasper. Officers said the accident occurred at a home on Farm to Market Road 3414, about a mile north of Highway 63. Deputy Karli Cherry, 19-year-old Evan Purtiman was riding in a truck driven by Rylan Byrd the he apparently stepped out of the vehicle before it came to a complete stop and was hit by the vehicle resulting in a fall and injuries to his head. Purtiman was flown by medical helicopter to St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Deputy Cherry said it was simply an accident and no criminal charges would be filed.
