TATUM, Texas (KLTV) - Tatum ISD police officers arrested a student Wednesday after a weapon was found in a student’s backpack. The school was first informed a student may potentially have an unloaded weapon on the high school campus around 12:15 p.m., according to a school release. The school said police found the student less than a minute later and an unloaded weapon was found in their backpack. They said there was no immediate threat to any students. “The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. Tatum Independant School District remains committed to providing the safest possible environment for all students,” the school said in the release. “We encourage the families of TISD to have conversations with their students about the importance of communicating any concerns they may have to campus staff so they are able to take necessary actions to ensure the safety of all students.”
