Storms caused flooding in Buna and bus route problems for Newton ISD

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

Although our area fared much better than areas south and southwest of here, severe thunderstorms on Tuesday still caused a few problems such as minor flooding in Buna and also a bus route problem for Newton ISD. Areas of Buna that typically flood during a major rain event were holding water on Tuesday afternoon, such as a parking lot on Highway 62. That parking lot was for several businesses such as a bank, a pharmacy, and several others. Meanwhile, the heavy rains caused problems on some roads around Newton. Newton ISD announced on Wednesday that school bus #18 was not able to travel on County Road 4031 between Farm to Market Road 2626 and Satterwhite's Store, and school bus #19 was not able to travel on Mulhollan Road. Here at KJAS in northeast Jasper, on Tuesday we recorded 1.75 inches of rainfall and our peak wind gust was 27 miles-per-hour out of the east-northeast at 1:23 p.m.
