Ceremonies to be held for 20th anniversary of Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy

Special ceremonies will be held to mark the loth anniversary of the Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy. The shuttle broke up during re-entry on the morning of Saturday, February 1st, 2OO3, taking the lives of her crew of seven astronauts. Pieces of the shuttle crashed to earth here in Deep East Texas, with the majority of the debris and the bodies of the astronauts landing in Sabine County. In Hemphill, the Remembering Columbia Museum will host a series of events on Monday, January 30th, Tuesday, January 3rst, and Wednesday, February 31st. Meanwhile, other ceremonies will be held at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and at other NASA facilities across the country. Columbia's last flight was Commanded by Rick D. Husband and Piloted by William C. McCool. Other members of the crew were David M. Brown, Dr. Kalpana Chawla, Michael P. Anderson, Laurel B. Clark, and Ilan Ramon.
