The Texas Department of Public Safety is warning motorists about drinking and driving during the Christmas and New Year's weekends, and they say that state troopers will be on the highways statewide looking for DWI's, along with other traffic violations. DPS released information this week, noting that 23% of all traffic crash deaths in Texas that occurred during last year's holiday season - December 1st, 2021, through January 1st, 2022 - involved drunk driving. DPS also says that those crashes killed 98 people and seriously injured 236 last year. The Texas Department of Transportation campaign known as "Drive Sober. No Regrets" is already in effect statewide and will continue through Sunday, January 1st, 2023, with troopers specifically looking for drunk drivers during this effort.
