HOMER, La. -- A state corrections officer in Claiborne Parish has been arrested for allegedly abusing her authority. State Police detectives late Wednesday afternoon arrested Helen Washington-Turner, 48, of Haynesville on charges of malfeasance in office and false personation. Washington-Turner was employed at the David Wade Correctional Center in Homer. An investigation began in July when detectives learned Washington-Turner sent unauthorized criminal history query results to an out-of-state agency. Also, she used her agency’s official letterhead to contest the validity of an active warrant for a family member, state police said. Washington-Turner surrendered to authorities and was booked into the Claiborne Parish Detention Center. Washington-Turner is the second corrections officer to be arrested in as many days. On Wednesday, Kevina Maxie was arrested for allegedly smuggling contraband into the Caddo Correctional Center, where she had worked for the past seven months. Maxie is charged with malfeasance in office and taking contraband to or from a penal institution.
