SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - Deputies with the Smith County Sheriff’s Office responded early Wednesday to someone who was shot, but details on the shooting are not clear.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Larry Christian said deputies responded to a home in the 17000 block of County Road 26 at 12:32 a.m. Wednesday and found a man sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle with two gunshot wounds to the leg. A deputy put a tourniquet on him before EMS arrived to take him to the hospital.

Christian said an investigation indicates the shooting did not happen in Smith County and the victim is from the Houston area. He said the victim and a witness at the home are not cooperating and are providing conflicting stories.

The victim is in good condition at a Tyler hospital.
