Criminal charges have been filed in Smith County against three law enforcement officers there.
KTRE 9 News in Lufkin is reporting that Smith County Precinct 1 Constable Curtis T. Traylor-Harris, 33, along with Chief Deputy LaQuenda Banks, 42, and Sergeant Derrick Holman, 44, have been arrested by the Texas Rangers.
Each is charged with Theft of Property by a Public Servant, Official Oppression, and Abuse of Official Capacity. As of Thursday, Banks and Holman had been released from jail on $15,000.00 bonds, while Traylor-Harris remained in jail under a $30,000.00 bond.
Meanwhile, exactly what the trio is accused of is not yet clear. KTRE reported that Smith County District Attorney Jacob Putman released a statement that said “The Smith County District Attorney’s Office is aware of the ongoing Texas Rangers’ investigation into the Smith County Pct. 1 Constable’s Office. Because it is an ongoing investigation, we cannot comment at this time.”
Tyler is the county seat of Smith County.
