Sheriff Gets Break in the Stolen Boat Case

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

Deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department have recovered items allegedly stolen earlier this year in the Brookeland Area and also arrested a suspect in the case.

Chief Deputy Scotty Duncan said Wednesday that an ongoing investigation had resulted in the recovery of an outboard motor that was believed to be on a 2009 Legend Bass Boat, when it went missing from the home of Thomas Howard and Lori Peck on County Road 219 in early September.

Duncan said that in addition to finding the motor, others items also believed to be stolen were also found.

Duncan said that he could not release the name of the suspect pending formal charges and arraignment, but the investigation was continuing and it was believed that additional arrests might come within near future.

Duncan said the outboard motor and other items were found in the Lakeland Addition just off of Highway 96, not far from where the boat and other items were allegedly reported stolen.
