Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

The Shreveport Police Department is now utilizing cameras to arrest people for littering; the department made its first arrest Thursday, June 6.

Police say the new anti-littering cameras were installed throughout the city with the purpose of making sure those who litter and dump trash illegally will be prosecuted.

“Keeping our city clean is a shared responsibility, and it starts with each of us taking pride in our community. The successful use of these cameras underscores our commitment to maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for everyone in Shreveport,” said Mayor Tom Arceneaux. “I commend the SPD for their innovative approach and dedication to leveraging technology for the benefit of our community.”

“The City of Shreveport remains dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for its residents through initiatives that promote cleanliness, safety, and community pride. This arrest serves as a reminder that littering will not be tolerated, and efforts to maintain a clean city will continue to be enforced.”
