Lufkin Police say a man was shot and killed while trying to steal a truck with a woman and her baby inside. It happened about 9:00 Wednesday night in the 1800 block of East Lufkin Avenue in southeast Lufkin.
Police said 25-year-old Marco Leyva told officers that he was with his wife and their baby daughter when he stopped at his business. Leyva said a man got inside the truck, followed by a physical altercation, and then he shot the man. He died a short time later at a hospital.
He has been identified as 47-year-old Jarvis Houston, of Lufkin. Police noted that he had been released from the Angelina County Jail less than an hour prior to the shooting. He had been arrested on a charge of Assault/Family Violence causing Bodily Injury.
Meanwhile, Police said security camera video at Leyva’s business captured the entire incident and police consider the shooting to be an act of self-defense and no charges were filed. The case will be referred to the District Attorney’s Office for their review.
