NATCHITOCHES, La. -- The Natchitoches Police Department has arrested Ajai Johnson, 32, of Natchitoches in connection with a shooting that injured a woman Tuesday night. Johnson is charged with second-degree cruelty to juveniles, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and illegal use of a weapon. Police found out about the shooting when they got a call from the hospital that a woman was there for treatment of a gunshot. She told officers she was in her bedroom when a bullet came through the wall. The woman was taken to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center then transferred to a hospital in Rapides Parish for further treatment. Investigators determined Johnson allegedly fired a gun inside the house, leading to the victim being shot. They found the gun and other evidence during a search of Johnson's house and vehicle. Ajai Johnson was placed in the LaSalle Corrections Center in Natchitoches.
