Sheriff Says Investigation Continues to Uncover Stolen Items, Two Charged in Case

Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman on Wednesday estimated that over $200,000.00 worth of stolen items in Jasper and the surrounding counties has now been recovered following a tip they received over the weekend.

 

Newman said that a travel trailer recently stolen from Troy Shanks here in Jasper was found over the weekend in nearby Sabine County and the investigation into the incident has now resulted in not only the trailer being recovered, but also other items which include guns, a four wheeler, cookers, gas cans and more. He said all items were believed to be taken at both hunting camps here in the north end of Newton County a well as Sabine County.

 

Those arrested in connection with the incidents include Jimmy Early Lewis, 36, and Athea Miguez, 33, both of Bronson.

 

The pair has been charged with the following crimes:

 

Jimmy Earl Lewis

 

Theft of Property - 3 counts (Jasper County charges)

 

Theft of Firearm (Jasper County charge)

 

Possession of a Controlled Substance - 2 counts (Sabine County charges)

 

Bond on Jasper County charges - $200,000.00

 

Bond on Sabine County charges - $25,000.00

 

Athea Aileen Miguez

 

Possession of a Controlled Substance - 2 counts (Sabine County charges)

 

Theft of Property (Sabine County charge)

 

Bond on Sabine County charges - Unavailable
