Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman on Thursday gave an update regarding two criminal cases in the past week. One was a burglary that occurred at about 1:30 Monday morning at Angelina Grocery on Highway 63 West. In that case a woman was captured on security camera video as she broke in and stole several cartons of cigarettes and also lottery tickets. Newman said investigators have positively identified the woman and they are very close to making an arrest in the case. The other was the theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle. It occurred on Tuesday afternoon at a house on County Road 297, south of Jasper. In that case, a security camera captured video of the man as he was committing the crime. Newman said investigators have received a tip on the identity of the suspect and they're currently following up on that lead.
