A second victim of meningitis recently acquired in Mexico has died. Funeral services will be held this week for 39-year-old Kountze resident Jody Lynn Adkins, a mother of two who was a paramedic for Allegiance EMS. She died on June 21st in a Houston hospital. Adkins was one of seventeen ladies who traveled to Matamoros, Mexico in February for cosmetic medical procedures, and all contracted fungal meningitis. Two medical clinics were associated with the outbreak, and both were closed down on May 13th. The first death was Lauren Brooke Robinson, 29, of Vidor. She died in late May. Adkins’ colleagues with Allegiance EMS, representatives from several local fire departments and law enforcement agencies, and her family and friends will gather on Wednesday afternoon for funeral services in Buna.
