Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard says the search for the remains of Christo Ruso continues in the Neches River below the Highway 96 bridge at Evadale.
Havard says items have been found and they’ve been sent for testing to determine if they’re human remains and if they are from the body of Ruso.
Christi Ruso went missing in October of 2021 and in recent weeks two arrests have been made in the case.
During a recent court hearing Colby Tatom admitted to shooting and killing Ruso in his house on County Road 777 near Buna. Tatom said he moved Ruso’s body outside and burned her in a burn pile, and he then took the remains and dumped her in the Neches River.
Tatom’s live-in girlfriend at the time, Mourie Collier, of Silsbee, was recently arrested after it was learned that she took the gun that Ruso was shot with and she pawned it at a Silsbee pawn shop.
Tatom has pleaded guilty to a charge of Tampering with a Human Corpse, while Collier has been charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence.
